I love the sunsets here…

This past week…92-year-old Grammy decided to take it upon herself to do her yard work pulling weeds and cutting the grass with a pair of scissors for 5 days straight from breakfast until dinner! That woman stressed me out…but she didn’t fall or pass out…and her yard looks great! look how cute she is…i couldn’t resist!

wow. life really is slow here. it became more and more apparent the more alone i was on the mountain. I really miss Tallahassee and all my friends there a lot this past week.So Mama and Papa are back…thank goodness. I’m so glad…not alone on the mountain anymore! YAY! I was thankful for my neighbor, Randy who checked up on me every day while I was here alone. He was super sweet and made sure I knew I could call him at any time if I needed anything…”Don’t be bashful, now!” said mister Randy…love him.

A week ago yesterday…I got to see my sister and brother-in-law. in Jasper, TN for lunch. She took pics (as always…) check out her site…she’s a pretty rad photographer.

I got ALL of this food for $10 at the Mennonite farmer’s market last week! SO PUMPED! It’s such good stuff, too! I’m so thankful for that place…

I went for my first bike ride last week since I’ve been here. it was nice to get back on a bike…really nice. I started riding and felt that 60 degree breeze in my face…man, I can’t explain that feeling. I’ve missed it…but i’m back in action! (watch out for dogs…they’re vicious up here!)

Counting down to Atlanta road trip! 4 days! Can’t wait to see my cousins!

I leave you with a prayer request…of epic proportions.
There is a family in Tallahassee who is friends with my sister and her in-laws…on Friday, their 1&1/2 year old son was killed after darting behind his mothers moving vehicle. All of his seven siblings were there when it happened. His funeral is tomorrow. The mother is four months pregnant and has been unable to sleep or eat much at all since Friday…please pray for her emotional, mental, and physical health, as well as her unborn child, her husband and seven children, and their community, as they cope with this loss. Joshua is in heaven with our eternal Daddy now, pray for those he left behind. please ask all the praying people you know to pray as well… ❤

cooler weather is coming…

September 15, 2008

no seriously! it’s been in the 60’s all day and I’ve been wearing a sweater! the low tonight might get in the 50’s! crazzzzzy. But I love it at this temp, just makes me nervous about the winter. there will be a fire in my house every night for sure…

Camp is quiet right now. Mama and Papa left a week ago for a cruise in Alaska. Jon and family left Saturday for 3 weeks, and so did Matthew. Jon and Gretchen will be in FL/GA/AL/SC mostly, visiting our summer groups. and matthew is currently doing hurricane clean-up in Texas for those groups instead of official group meetings there due to Ike and no power. So it’s me and Grammy on the mountain until Mama and Papa get back a week from tomorrow. (YAY! LIFE!) Don’t get me wrong…Grammy is a lot of fun…but after a while, yelling at the top of your lungs just to have a conversation wears on you. we’re doing dinner together tonight…and checkers will ensue I am sure of it! 🙂  While everyone’s gone…I’m feeding cats, dogs, and chickens, checking mail, and making sure no one robs camp? Thankfully, Jon left their dog, Maddy with me. She sleeps on my front porch and barks at strangers. 🙂

I got to see my sister yesterday! Beka and Ben were in TN for the weekend for Ben’s g-parents 50th anniversary festivities…so I drove over to Jasper just West of Chattanooga for lunch and a Goodwill trip yesterday…where I bought 3 big winter sweaters and a t-shirt for $18. I’m never buying new clothes again! Cracker Barrel in the mountains with family was nice…it had been a while…

Last week Matthew and I took a day trip to North Carolina. BEAUTIFUL country for sure! We had lunch in Black mountain (adorable!) and took the afternoon to explore camp ridgecrest for boys where he grew up attending and was a counselor at also…and I got to visit ridgecrest conference center where I grew up going. We went for a hike with some beautiful views…I’ll post pictures next time. Then we had dinner in Asheville with his sister and her hubby and hung out for some drinks after. (root beer for me, please!) We’re def going back to asheville during the day to explore…the little bit we saw was really rad…

I have learned that hay is itchy. other than a couple of hay rides in my life…i haven’t had much contact with the stuff. a couple of weeks ago we helped a neighbor get his hay in the barn…it was fun times. here’s the process: they hop in a big ol’ tractor and cut all the grass down. then another big ol’ tractor sorts the hay in piles and packs it into round bales or rectangular bales. that’s where we came in. next, “Junior” hopped in the big truck and road around the field, while Matthew and Michael walked beside it and picked up the rectangular bales and tossed them on the truck bed. (this was no toyota my friends…there must have been 100+ 50lbs hay bales!) Then mister Coleman and I tossed them into one huge neatly organized pile as to fit them all on the truck. next we road over to the old barn, hooked up the pully/conveyorbeltthingy to the generator and Junior and I tossed them onto the belt while Matthew and Michael unloaded and re-stacked them into the barn loft. PHEW. it was hard work…but a lot of fun, and I learned how hay is made! here’s some pics…

Fun times!
I’ve updated my button site!

need Christmas gift ideas? look no further! I’ve started making fun necklaces that people seem to be really into. I’m also working on business cards…you might get some in the mail. If you do…pass them around and post them up! 😉

I feel like I have 80 jobs these days…but it’s not overwhelming, just fun and changes things up. Of course I work at camp in the office and leading activities when we have weekend retreats, care-taking for Grammy Smeltzer, there’s the button thing on the side also, and now working some for Nathan. He is a friend of Matt’s who started a non-profit called “Higher Ground USA” where he gets hired out to lead outdoor adventure activities for a day or so at a time at camps for retreats of sorts. So basically…he hires people like me for a day at a time, trained in the ways of belaying, v-swings, zip lines, rappelling/climbing, for a day. Matthew and I worked for him last Thursday at Camp Alpine for a couple hundred 6th and 12th grade prep school girls and it was a lot of fun. I guess Nathan thought I did all right cause he asked me back this week…so Thursday I’ll head to Mentone, AL to a camp there with 16 other higher ground peeps and a couple hundred 7th grade boys! woo hoo! I’m excited…it’s nice to get of the mountain for a bit, to meet people my age who love the outdoors, to play for a day, get some extra income, and to have a job/boss that allows me to do all of the above! Should be a good time…

After Mama and Papa get back next week…I’ll head to the Atlanta area to visit the cousins…then I’m off to Nashville to hear Shane Claiborne speak about God and politics, and visit with Jess, Cassie, and Linds – the bride to be! It will be nice to get away and see people I love after being all alone on the mountain. 😉 feel free to call or visit!  🙂

missing the ones I love…
